Oeshiki Festival of Ikegami Honmonji Temple very famous festival in Tokyo, will held on the anniversary of Saint Nichiren’s death. The festival will be held in Nichiren temples throughout the country, but it is the most grand festival, that will be held at Ikegami Honmonji Temple.
The highlight is the “mando rite”. The huge floats are accompanied by Matoi, Edo-era firemen, who provide music for the march on their flutes and drums. Many people carry sacred lanterns decorated with cherry blossoms along the approximately two-kilometer route from Ikegami Station to the temple.
Over 300,000 people usually attend the festival every year to enjoy the magical atmosphere, but for those who can’t be there in person, the event is also broadcast online.
